Am I burned out? The Burnout Test by psychologists helps you gain clarity and recognize possible signs.
This test helps you determine whether your stress level is healthy or if there's a burnout risk.
Important: The test does not replace a diagnosis. If concerned, seek medical help.
All questions refer to the last 14 days. Answer each question with a number from 1 to 5 (1 = Not at all, 5 = Very Strongly). Select your answer for each question and click "Evaluate" at the end.
1. Do you feel overwhelmed by your responsibilities, even when your workload hasn't actually increased?
2. Do you find yourself questioning the meaning or purpose of your work or daily activities?
3. Do you experience persistent fatigue despite getting adequate sleep?
4. Are you more irritable or short-tempered than usual, even over minor issues?
5. Do you struggle with maintaining focus or concentration on tasks that require attention?
6. Do you frequently feel disconnected from others or experience a sense of isolation?
7. Does the mere thought of work or specific responsibilities trigger stress or anxiety?
This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional, such as a doctor or a psychiatrist or psychotherapist, can help you with the next steps.
This short, free test is for you if you're wondering whether stress is overwhelming you.
The questions can help you better understand your relationship with work and stress and determine if you need support.
Only a therapist or psychiatrist can determine if your problems are a symptom of another condition and recommend a treatment plan.
This test serves as guidance, not as a diagnosis. It's a first step toward self-reflection.
A trained professional can help you plan the next steps.
From a psychological perspective, in the case of manifest burnout, it is contraindicated in most cases to continue working. The state of being burned out is often characterized by deep exhaustion, detachment from work, and a feeling of lack of personal achievement.
Continuing to work intensifies the vicious cycle of overload, reduced performance, and compensatory efforts. This can lead to a chronification of symptoms and more serious psychological problems such as depression or anxiety disorders. Taking sick leave allows you to gain distance and focus on recovery. In milder cases, where there is only increased stress, reducing the workload in consultation with the treating doctor and after a careful analysis of working conditions may be sensible. It is important to set clear boundaries and define realistic goals to avoid overloading again.
A time-out should always be combined with therapeutic measures such as cognitive behavioral therapy or relaxation techniques to learn long-term strategies for coping with stress and changing unfavorable work patterns.
Preventing burnout requires a holistic approach that takes into account both individual and organizational factors. From a psychological perspective, the following aspects are particularly relevant:
By integrating these psychological strategies into your daily life, you can strengthen your resilience and effectively prevent burnout. It is important to note that prevention is a continuous process that requires active engagement with your own needs and stresses.
