Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
I'm so glad you found your way to our page for English-speaking psychological support in Valencia. I understand what it's like to be far from home. Expat life offers so many wonderful experiences, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of navigating a new culture, and that feeling of straddling two worlds – it can all take a toll. Especially when you're sitting on Malvarrosa beach in the evening and the silence sets in, homesickness can become overwhelming, and you might feel uprooted. You're not alone.
As an online psychologist, I understand the unique difficulties that await you as an expat. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life, and that feeling of loss of identity that's so hard to grasp and put into words. I know how draining that can be.
My goal here is to show you both local resources in Valencia that can help you and to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as an expat – no matter where you are on your journey or what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can offer help and advice.
I often hear the question: Sally, do you ever take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I am passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I manage to do this by taking care of myself. The motto for me is: Practise what you preach. So you'll find me not only at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake or on the snowboard. In the picture here on the right, I'm enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. That's how I recharge my batteries and then get back to work.
As a licensed Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
A trusting relationship is particularly important to me in our collaboration. Your experiences as an expat deserve special attention and understanding, because life between two cultures brings unique challenges.
For in-person appointments in Valencia, the following English-speaking psychologists are available to provide you with professional support:
Barbara Jäckel
Psychological Counseling (German-speaking)
C/ Isabel la Católica, 21, pta. 4
46004 Valencia, Spanien
As an experienced Psychological Psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming adapting to a new culture can be – when the smell of paella and orange blossoms is in the air, the social codes are different, and sometimes you can't even explain why you feel so foreign.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues are bothering you, or homesickness is weighing you down – together we will find ways for you not only to survive in Valencia, but to lead a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from another cultural background – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to make appointments by e-mail. I look forward to getting to know you and working together to find a way for you not only to survive in Valencia, but to really arrive.

Many expats in Valencia experience challenges related to finding work, especially if their Spanish skills are not yet sufficient. Finding accommodation can also be difficult, as rental prices in popular areas are high. Social isolation is another issue, especially in the first few months when a network is lacking. Cultural differences, particularly regarding punctuality and work ethic, can also lead to frustrations.
Use online job portals aimed at expats, and actively network in social media and expat groups in Valencia. Perfect your Spanish, ideally with a language course. Be open to different types of employment, including freelancing or part-time jobs, to get a foothold. It's also important to have realistic expectations and prepare for a longer search time.
In addition to online counseling with me, Barbara Jäckel in Valencia offers psychological counseling in German. You can find her contact details further up on this page. Waiting times may vary, so it's advisable to request appointments early. Online counseling offers a flexible alternative with often shorter waiting times and the possibility of receiving support from the comfort of your own home.
Be open to Spanish culture and try to integrate actively. Attend local events, learn the language, and exchange ideas with other expats and locals. Accept that it takes time to adjust and be patient with yourself. Try to enjoy the positive aspects of living in Valencia, such as the good weather, delicious food and relaxed lifestyle.
Maintain contact with family and friends back home through regular calls or video chats. Seek contact with other expats in Valencia, for example through expat groups or expat organizations. Get involved in local activities, such as sports clubs or language courses, to meet new people. Create a routine and make your home in Valencia cozy to feel comfortable.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings and social isolation. Use language courses and language exchanges to improve your Spanish skills. Don't hesitate to ask for help and use online translation tools to facilitate communication. If you feel overwhelmed, psychological counseling in your native language can help you cope with the challenges.
Different ideas about punctuality, work ethic and directness in communication can lead to misunderstandings. Try to understand the Spanish culture and adapt without denying your own values. Be patient and tolerant of cultural differences. Address conflicts openly and respectfully, ideally with an intercultural coach or in psychological counseling.
