Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It's wonderful that you've found your way to our page for English-speaking psychological support in Minsk. I understand what it feels like to be far from home. Expat life holds so many amazing experiences, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of navigating a new culture – especially in a city like Minsk, which can be so different from what you're used to – and the feeling of having one foot in two worlds can all be quite nerve-wracking. Especially when the silence settles in, homesickness can become overwhelming, and you might feel uprooted. Please know that you're not alone.
As an online psychologist, I understand the very specific difficulties that await you as an expat, especially in Minsk. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's the adjustment to a different economic system, the bureaucratic hurdles, and perhaps even the political situation that can create uncertainty. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life, and that feeling of loss of identity that's so hard to grasp and put into words. I know how draining that can be.
My goal here is to show you both local information in Minsk that can help you, and to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as an expat – no matter where you are or what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who truly understands your situation and can offer you advice and support.
I keep hearing the question: Sally, do you also take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert, and entrepreneur, I am passionate about women's health. But I'm not burning out.
I manage to do that by taking care of myself. Here, "practise what you preach" applies to me. So, you will not only find me at MentalStark, in TED Talks, or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafes, by the lake, or snowboarding. In the picture here on the right, I am enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then get going again at full speed.
As a licensed psychological psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
In our collaboration, a trusting relationship is particularly important to me. Your experiences as an expat deserve special attention and understanding, because life between two cultures brings unique challenges.
Unfortunately, it is often difficult to find English-speaking psychologists directly in Minsk. The good news is that my online counseling offers a flexible and location-independent way to receive psychological support in your native language.
As an experienced psychological psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming adapting to a new culture can be – when the language sounds foreign, the social codes are different, and sometimes you can't even explain why you feel so strange, especially in a city like Minsk that is so different from your home country.
In my online counseling, we create a safe space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues are bothering you, or homesickness is weighing you down – together we will find ways how you can not only survive in Minsk, but lead a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from a different cultural background – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to make appointments by email. I look forward to getting to know you and finding a way together how you can not only survive in Minsk, but really arrive.

In Minsk, many expats experience challenges related to the job market, which often operates differently than in their home country. Finding accommodation can also be difficult. Social isolation is another issue, as it's not always easy to make connections. Cultural differences and the political situation can also be stressful.
It's important to have realistic expectations about the job market and finding accommodation. Use online networks and expat groups to make connections. Get involved in local clubs or language courses to learn more about the culture and integrate. Stay in touch with your family and friends back home, but also be open to new friendships.
Since there are few or no English-speaking therapists in Minsk, online counseling is a good option. It offers you the opportunity to speak with an English-speaking psychologist from anywhere. Check with your health insurance company to see if online counseling is covered. Waiting times for appointments can vary, so it is advisable to make an appointment early.
Culture shock is a normal reaction to a new environment. Find out about Belarusian culture in advance and be open to new experiences. Try to learn the language to communicate better. Seek contact with locals to learn about the culture firsthand. Be patient with yourself and allow yourself to make mistakes.
Homesickness is a normal feeling, especially in the first few months. Make your home in Minsk as comfortable as possible. Cook familiar dishes and maintain traditions. Use social media and video calls to stay in touch with your family and friends. Find hobbies and activities that you enjoy and distract you.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and social isolation. Take a language course to improve your language skills. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you don't understand something. Use online translation tools to facilitate communication. Be patient with yourself and celebrate your progress.
Differences in the directness of communication, in punctuality, and in dealing with hierarchies can lead to misunderstandings. Be aware that cultural differences are normal and try to understand the other person's perspective. Address conflicts openly and respectfully and look for common solutions.
