Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It's wonderful that you've found your way to our page for English-speaking psychological support in Marseille. I understand how it feels to be far from home. Life as an expat offers so many amazing experiences, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of navigating a new culture, and that feeling of having one foot in two worlds – it can all be quite overwhelming. Especially as the sun sets over the Vieux Port and a quiet stillness descends, homesickness can feel particularly intense, leaving you feeling uprooted. Please know that you are not alone.
As an online psychologist, I truly understand the unique challenges you face as an expat abroad. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's the subtle nuances, the little misunderstandings at the bakery or in the market, that keep cropping up in everyday life and that feeling of loss of identity that's so difficult to grasp and put into words. I know how exhausting that can be.
My goal is to show you both local resources in Marseille that can help you, as well as introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as an expat – no matter where you are or what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can offer support and advice.
I often hear the question: Sally, do you also take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I am passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I manage to do this by taking care of myself. The following applies to me here: Practise what you preach. So you will find me not only at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake or on the snowboard. In the picture here on the right, I am enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then get back to full speed.
As a licensed Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
In our collaboration, a trusting relationship is particularly important to me. Your experiences as an expat deserve special attention and understanding, because life between two cultures brings unique challenges.
Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find English-speaking psychological counseling in Marseille. The good news is that there are options that can help you:
Currently, we are not aware of any English-speaking psychologists in Marseille. If you are looking near Marseille, you might find what you are looking for in Lyon or Montpellier. Alternatively, online counseling offers a flexible and location-independent solution.
As an experienced Psychological Psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming it can be to adjust to a new culture – when the language sounds foreign, the social codes are different, and sometimes you can't even explain why you feel so alienated.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues are bothering you, or homesickness is burdening you – together we will find ways how you can not only survive in Marseille, but live a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from a different cultural background – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to make appointments by e-mail. I look forward to getting to know you and finding a way together how you can not only survive in Marseille, but really arrive.

Many expats in Marseille struggle with feelings of isolation, especially if their French is not yet fluent. Finding an apartment can be stressful, and the work culture is often different from what they are used to. The complex social fabric of the city can also be overwhelming at first.
Connect with other expats or international groups in Marseille. There are many regular meetups, sports clubs or language courses. Get involved in local projects or attend cultural events to make new contacts. And don't forget: a walk by the sea or a visit to a café can also work wonders!
Since it can be difficult to find English-speaking psychologists locally, online counseling is a good option. Here at HalloPsychologe.de you can speak to me from the comfort of your own home. There are usually no waiting times, and the costs are often transparent. Make sure your therapist has experience with expats.
Culture shock is normal! Allow yourself to discover the new culture, but don't lose sight of your roots. Attend expat events, maintain contacts back home and stay open to new things. Try to enjoy the positive aspects of the French way of life – the food, the sea, the relaxed atmosphere.
Homesickness is a sign that you value your roots. Allow yourself to be sad, but also distract yourself. Cook dishes from home, call family and friends, watch films from your home country. Plan a visit home or decorate your home in Marseille with familiar objects.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings and social isolation. Use language courses, tandem partners or apps to improve your French. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and ask for help. And remember: non-verbal communication is also important – everyone understands a smile!
Expats and locals often have different communication styles and expectations. Be aware of these differences and try to adapt. Listen carefully, ask questions if you don't understand something, and be patient. Openness and respect can prevent many misunderstandings.
