Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It's wonderful that you've found your way to our page for psychological support in Leipzig. I understand how it feels to be far from home or to have to find your feet in a new environment. Life as an expat or newcomer in Leipzig holds many exciting possibilities, but it can also come with unexpected challenges. Looking for an apartment in trendy neighborhoods like Plagwitz or Connewitz, adapting to the Saxon dialect, and making new contacts can be quite demanding. You are not alone in this.
As an online psychologist, I understand the very specific difficulties that await you as a German abroad or a newcomer in Leipzig. It's often not just the obvious things like a new job or a new apartment. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life and that feeling of not really belonging that is so difficult to grasp and put into words. I know how exhausting that can be.
My goal here is to show you both local resources in Leipzig that can help you, as well as to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as a German abroad or a newcomer in Leipzig – no matter where you are right now and what challenges you are facing. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and is there to help you with advice and support.
I keep hearing the question: Sally, do you ever take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I'm passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I succeed in doing this by taking care of myself. The following applies to me: Practise what you preach. So you will not only find me at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake or on the snowboard. In the picture here on the right, I am enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then start all over again.
As a licensed Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
In our collaboration, a trusting relationship is particularly important to me. Your experiences as a German abroad or a newcomer in Leipzig deserve special attention and understanding, because life in a new environment brings unique challenges.

As an experienced Psychological Psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming it can be to adjust to a new environment – when the language may sound different (Saxon!), the social codes are unfamiliar, and sometimes you can't even explain why you feel so foreign.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues concern you, or homesickness weighs you down – together we will find ways for you to not only survive in Leipzig, but to lead a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from another cultural background or another region of Germany – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to make appointments by email. I look forward to getting to know you and working together to find a way for you to not only survive in Leipzig, but to really arrive.

Many people who move to Leipzig experience a mixture of excitement and uncertainty. Typical challenges include finding an apartment, adjusting to the local dialect and humor, building a new circle of friends, and getting used to a new working culture. These factors can lead to stress, loneliness, and a feeling of being overwhelmed.
Loneliness is a common problem for newcomers. But there are many ways to make contacts! Get involved in local clubs (e.g. sports clubs or citizens' initiatives), attend language courses (Saxon for beginners!), take part in neighborhood festivals or meet like-minded people via online platforms. A walk through the Clara-Zetkin-Park or a bike tour on the Cospudener See can also help you explore the city and gain new impressions. Don't be afraid to approach others - the people of Leipzig are generally open and friendly.
There are several ways to find psychological counseling in Leipzig. You can contact resident psychologists (see list above) or contact counseling centers such as Caritas or Diakonisches Werk. Many health insurance companies also offer support in finding a therapist. If you want to be more flexible or value a familiar environment, online counseling is a good alternative. Waiting times for a therapy place can vary, so it is advisable to take action early.
Saxon culture is characterized by coziness, humor and a certain stubbornness. The dialect can be a challenge at first, but with a little practice you will soon understand it. The people of Leipzig are proud of their city and its history, and they appreciate traditions. Be open to new things, be interested in the local culture and try Saxon cuisine (Quarkkäulchen!) - that way you will quickly feel at home.
Homesickness is a normal feeling, especially in the beginning. It is important to accept your feelings and allow yourself time to grieve. At the same time, you can actively do something about your homesickness by keeping in touch with your family and friends, putting up souvenirs from your old home or doing things that you enjoy. Also try to develop new routines and habits in Leipzig in order to take root here.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings and social isolation. If you have difficulty with the German language, you should attend a language course or join a tandem group. There are also special counseling services for people with a migration background. Don't be afraid to ask for help - many people in Leipzig speak English or other languages and are willing to help you.
Misunderstandings often arise due to different communication styles. While some Germans are very direct, Saxons prefer a more indirect way. Humor can also be different. The best thing to do is to be open and curious, ask questions if you don't understand something, and don't be guided by clichés. Try to discover the positive sides of the Saxon mentality - their serenity, their humor and their hospitality.
