Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It's wonderful that you've found your way to our page for psychological support in Hanover. I understand what it feels like to be in a new environment, even if Germany is your home. Hanover, with its green parks and rich history, is a beautiful city, but moving here, or living here as a "non-Hanoverian," can also present its challenges. The feeling of being a stranger, the difficulty of making new connections, and the pressure to adapt – all of this can be quite nerve-wracking. Especially when the silence sets in, insecurities can become overwhelming, and the feeling of not really belonging can arise. You are not alone in this.
As an online psychologist, I understand the very particular difficulties that await you as a newcomer or as an expat in Hanover. It's often not just the obvious things like finding accommodation or dealing with bureaucracy. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings in everyday life, that keep popping up and that hard-to-grasp feeling of being different, which is so difficult to put into words. I know how exhausting that can be.
My goal here is to show you both local resources in Hanover that can help you, and to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you in your situation – no matter where you are right now and what challenges you are facing. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can help you with advice and support.
I keep hearing the question: Sally, do you ever take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert, and entrepreneur, I'm passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I manage this by taking care of myself. The saying "practice what you preach" rings true for me. So, you'll find me not only at MentalStark, in TED-Talks, or podcasting, but also in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake, or snowboarding. In the picture to the right, I'm enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then start again with full energy.
As a licensed Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
In our collaboration, a trusting relationship is particularly important to me. Your experiences as a newcomer or expat in Hanover deserve special attention and understanding, because living in a new environment brings unique challenges.

As an experienced Psychological Psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming it can be to adjust to a new environment – when people "tick" differently, social codes are different, and you sometimes can't even explain why you feel so foreign.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings. Whether you don't feel like you belong, identity questions are bothering you, or you simply long for someone who understands you – together we will find ways in which you can not only survive in Hanover, but lead a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner who is "typically" German, while you feel different – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to arrange appointments by email. I look forward to getting to know you and finding a way together to help you not only survive in Hanover, but really arrive.

Many people in Hanover experience difficulties finding accommodation, building social contacts, and adapting to the local culture. The job market can be competitive, and the feeling of isolation, especially during the dark winter months, can lead to mood swings and loneliness.
The housing market in Hanover can be tight. It helps to start looking early, use local online portals and newspapers, and apply to housing cooperatives. Be patient and don't be discouraged. Networking can also help – ask friends, colleagues, or groups on social media for advice.
You can contact local psychologists such as Tugce Köker, Lara Richter and Dipl.-Psych. Thomas Fein directly. Note that there may be waiting times. Alternatively, online counseling offers a flexible and often faster way to get support. On our site you will also find information on costs and possible insurance coverage.
Culture shock is normal. Try to stay open and curious. Explore Hanover, attend local events like the Schützenfest or the Christmas market, and get to know the local cuisine. Seek contact with locals and other newcomers to exchange ideas and support each other.
Homesickness is understandable. Stay in touch with your family and friends, but also try to build new relationships in Hanover. Get involved in clubs, take language courses, or take part in city tours. Hanover has many parks and green spaces – use them for walks and relaxation.
Language barriers can lead to frustration and misunderstandings. Use language courses, apps, or tandem partners to improve your German skills. Don't be afraid to ask for help and use online translation tools. If you feel overwhelmed, psychological counseling can help you deal with the emotional effects.
Hanoverians are often considered to be somewhat more reserved and less extroverted than people from other regions of Germany. Be patient and give people time to get to know you. Show interest in their culture and traditions. Direct confrontation is often avoided, so it is important to recognize subtle signals and communicate respectfully. Humor can build a bridge, but be careful that it is not misunderstood.
