Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It’s wonderful that you've found your way to our page for English-speaking psychological support in Dubai. I understand what it feels like to be far from home. Life as an expat holds so many wonderful experiences, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of navigating a new culture, and that feeling of straddling two worlds – all of this can really take its toll. Especially when the silence sets in, homesickness can become overwhelming, creating a feeling of being uprooted. You're not alone in this. The glittering skyscrapers and seemingly limitless opportunities can sometimes amplify the inner challenges.
As an Online Psychologist, I understand the very specific difficulties that await you as an expatriate. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life, and that feeling of identity loss that is so hard to grasp and put into words. The high cost of living and the immense pressure to perform in Dubai can add to the burden. I know how exhausting that can be.
My goal is to show you both local options in Dubai that can help you, as well as to introduce you to my Online Counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as an expatriate – no matter where you are or what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can provide you with advice and support.
I often get asked: Sally, do you ever take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert, and entrepreneur, I'm passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I manage to do this by taking care of myself. For me, it's about: Practise what you preach. So, you'll find me not only at MentalStark, in TED Talks, or podcasting. No. You'll also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake, or snowboarding. In the picture here on the right, I'm enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. That's how I recharge my batteries and then get back into it full force.
As a licensed psychological psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
A trusting relationship is particularly important to me in our collaboration. Your experiences as an expatriate deserve special attention and understanding, because life between two cultures brings unique challenges.
For in-person appointments in Dubai, there is the following English-speaking psychologist who can assist you with professional support:
Dr. Christina Burmeister
Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC)
Bld. 64, Al Razi, Block A, 2nd floor, Clinic 2006, Dubai, UAE

As an experienced psychological psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming it can be to adapt to a new culture – when the language sounds foreign, the social codes are different, and sometimes you can't even explain why you feel so strange.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues concern you, or homesickness weighs you down – together we will find ways for you to not only survive in Dubai, but to lead a fulfilling life. Maybe you long for a walk along the Rhine while looking at the Dubai skyline instead. Let's talk about it.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from a different cultural background – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to make appointments by e-mail. I look forward to getting to know you and finding a way together how you can not only survive in Dubai, but really arrive.

In Dubai, many expatriates experience challenges related to the high pressure to perform at work, competition for housing, and the high cost of living. Cultural differences and living in a predominantly English-speaking environment can also lead to stress and adjustment difficulties. In addition, there is often social isolation, as it can be difficult to form deep friendships in a fast-paced expat community.
The key is to set realistic expectations for yourself and maintain a healthy work-life balance. In psychological counseling, we can work together to develop strategies to keep your own needs in mind, set boundaries, and reduce stress. Make sure you get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, and exercise regularly. Consciously plan time for relaxation and hobbies – perhaps a trip to the desert or a visit to the Dubai Opera.
There is the possibility of personal counseling with Dr. Christina Burmeister in Dubai Healthcare City. Waiting times may vary, so it is advisable to make an appointment early. A flexible alternative is the online counseling that I offer. The costs of psychological counseling in Dubai can be high, and the insurance situation is often complex. It is best to clarify in advance with your insurance company which services are covered. Online counseling often offers a more cost-effective option.
Culture shock is a normal reaction to a new environment. To cope with it, it is important to actively engage with the local culture, but also to maintain your own cultural identity. Visit local markets, learn Arabic words, and try the local cuisine. At the same time, you should maintain contact with other expatriates and maintain traditions from home. In psychological counseling, we can work together to develop strategies to deal with the challenges of culture shock and find a balance between adaptation and self-preservation.
Homesickness and isolation are common companions of expat life. To counteract this, it is important to build a social network and actively participate in the expat community. There are numerous expatriate associations and groups in Dubai that organize regular meetings and events. Sports clubs, language courses, or volunteering can also offer opportunities to make new contacts. Talk openly about your feelings with friends, family, or a therapist. Plan regular visits to your home country or use modern technologies to stay in touch.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and social isolation. If you cannot express yourself sufficiently in English, this can affect your self-esteem and lead to anxiety. Use language courses to improve your English skills and do not be afraid to ask for help if you do not understand something. In psychological counseling, you can express your feelings in your native language and develop strategies to deal with language barriers.
Some typical points of conflict may be different ideas about punctuality, directness in communication, and hierarchies in the workplace. While expatriates often value punctuality and direct communication, locals in Dubai may prefer a more flexible approach to time and more indirect communication styles. To avoid conflicts, it is important to learn about local customs and adapt to cultural norms. Be respectful, patient, and try to understand the other person's perspective. In psychological counseling, we can work together to develop strategies to acquire intercultural skills and resolve conflicts constructively.
