Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
Welcome! We are so glad you've found our page for psychological support in Gdańsk. We understand what it's like to be far from home. Life as an expat holds so many wonderful experiences, but it can also be a rollercoaster of emotions. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of finding your way in a new culture, and that feeling of having one foot in two worlds – all of that can really take a toll. Especially in a city like Gdańsk, which is so rich in history but also in upheaval, homesickness can become overwhelming and create a feeling of being uprooted. Please know that you are not alone.
As an online psychologist, I understand the very particular difficulties that await you as someone living abroad. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's living in a city that has retained so much of its history while also being so deeply Polish. It's the subtle nuances, the little misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life, and that feeling of loss of identity that is so hard to grasp and put into words. I know how exhausting that can be.
My goal here is to show you both local resources in Gdańsk that can help you, and to introduce you to my online counseling services. These are specifically designed to support you as someone living abroad – no matter where you are or what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can help you with advice and support.
I often get asked the question: Sally, do you ever take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I'm passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I manage to do this by taking care of myself. For me, the motto is: Practice what you preach. So you'll find me not only at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake or on the snowboard. In the picture here on the right, I'm enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then start again at full speed.
As a licensed psychological psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
A trusting relationship is particularly important to me in our collaboration. Your experiences as someone living abroad deserve special attention and understanding, because life between two cultures brings unique challenges.
Unfortunately, there are currently no English-speaking psychologists for in-person appointments in Gdańsk. Finding a suitable therapist can be a challenge, but I want to assure you that you are not alone.
As an experienced psychological psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming adapting to a new culture can be – when the language sounds foreign, the social codes are different, and you sometimes can't even explain why you feel so alien. Especially in Gdańsk, with its complex history and strong Polish traditions, this alienation can be amplified.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues are bothering you, or homesickness is weighing you down – together we will find ways for you to not only survive in Gdańsk, but to lead a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from a different cultural background – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to make appointments by email. I look forward to getting to know you and finding a way together for you to not only survive in Gdańsk, but to really arrive.

Many people in Gdańsk struggle with feelings of isolation, exacerbated by the language barrier and the lack of English-speaking networks. Adapting to Polish culture, especially in a city with such a turbulent history, can lead to identity crises. Difficulties in the labor market and uncertainties regarding housing also put a strain on many.
It is important to actively look for English-speaking communities in Gdańsk, for example via online forums or social media. Try to learn Polish to make integration easier. Take advantage of the city's numerous cultural offerings to familiarize yourself with Polish culture. If you feel overwhelmed, don't hesitate to seek professional psychological help – online or, if possible, in person.
Since there are currently no English-speaking psychologists directly in Gdańsk, online counseling is a good option. Look for certified therapists with experience in caring for expats. Pay attention to the costs and whether your health insurance covers online counseling. Waiting times can vary, so it is advisable to make an appointment early.
Be aware that culture shock is normal and takes time to overcome. Try to approach Polish culture openly and curiously. Seek exchange with other expats to share experiences. Set yourself realistic goals for integration and allow yourself to make mistakes. Maintain your roots, but also be willing to adopt new traditions.
Regular contact with family and friends back home is important. Plan visits or use digital communication tools. Get involved in groups in Gdańsk. Look for hobbies or activities that you enjoy and that bring you into contact with other people. Regularly visit places that remind you of home, such as restaurants or shops.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings and social isolation. Use language courses or tandem partners to improve your Polish language skills. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you don't understand something. Be patient with yourself and celebrate small steps forward. If the language barrier is too stressful, psychological counseling in your native language can help.
People and Poles differ in their communication style, their humor and their manners. Poles are often more direct and emotional than others. It is important to learn about these differences and react sensitively to them. Try to understand the other person's perspective and break down prejudices. Open communication and mutual respect are the key to a successful intercultural relationship.
