Psychologist & Counselor

It's wonderful that you've found your way to our page for English-speaking psychological support in Dallas. I understand what it feels like to be far from home. Life as an expat holds so many wonderful experiences, but it can also be a rollercoaster of emotions. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of navigating a new culture, and that feeling of standing with one foot in two worlds – all of that can really take a toll. Especially when the Dallas summer heat settles in and the silence descends, homesickness can become overwhelming, and you might feel uprooted. Please know that you're not alone in this.

As an online psychologist, I understand the very particular difficulties that await you as a German abroad. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life, and that feeling of loss of identity that's so hard to grasp and put into words. I know how exhausting that can be, especially when you're trying to gain a foothold in the Texan working world or get used to life in a city like Dallas.

My goal here is to show you both local resources in Dallas that can help you, as well as to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as a German abroad – no matter where you are or what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can help you with advice and support.

  • I am Sally Schulze

    I am Sally Schulze

I always hear the question: Sally, do you take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I am passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.

I manage to do this by taking care of myself. Here, "practise what you preach" applies to me. So you will not only find me at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You will also find me in Frankfurt cafes, by the lake or on the snowboard. In the picture here on the right, I am enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then start again at full speed.

Online Counseling for Germans Abroad

As an experienced Psychological Psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming it can be to adapt to a new culture – when the language sounds foreign, the social codes are different, and you sometimes can't even explain why you feel so out of place.

In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues are bothering you, or homesickness is weighing you down – together we will find ways in Dallas for you not only to survive but to lead a fulfilling life. Maybe you long for the Christmas markets and mulled wine while enjoying the Texan sun?

Culture shock is a normal reaction to a new environment. Research Texan culture in advance and try to be open and curious. Accept that it takes time to adjust. Talk to other expats about your experiences and seek professional help if you feel overwhelmed. Remember that Dallas is modern but also has deep roots in Southern culture.

How do language barriers affect my mental health in Dallas and what resources are available?

Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and social isolation. Take language courses to improve your English skills. Use translation apps and online dictionaries to facilitate communication. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you don't understand something. Many local organizations offer free language courses and support for immigrants.

What are the most common conflicts between Germans and Texans, and how can they be addressed?

Differences in communication styles can lead to misunderstandings. Germans are often more direct, and Texans value politeness and small talk. Germans may perceive Texan hospitality as superficial, while Texans may perceive German directness as impolite. Try to adapt to the local communication style and be patient and tolerant.
