Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It’s wonderful that you’ve found your way to our page for English-speaking psychological support in Brno. I understand what it feels like to be far from home. Life as an expat holds so many wonderful experiences, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of finding your way in a new culture, and that feeling of straddling two worlds – all of this can really test your nerves. Especially when the silence sets in, homesickness can become overwhelming and create a feeling of being uprooted. Please know that you are not alone.
As an online psychologist, I understand the very specific difficulties that await you as an expat. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life and that feeling of identity loss that is so hard to grasp and put into words. I know how exhausting that can be. The Czech bureaucracy, the search for an apartment in Brno, or communicating with the locals - all of this can be stressful.
My goal here is to show you both local resources in Brno that can help you, and to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as an expat – no matter where you are right now and what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can help you with advice and support.
I often hear the question: Sally, do you also take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I am passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I manage to do this by taking care of myself. The following applies to me here: Practise what you preach. So you can find me not only at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake or on the snowboard. In the picture here on the right, I'm enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then get going again.
As a licensed psychological psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
A trusting relationship is particularly important to me in our collaboration. Your experiences as an expat deserve special attention and understanding, because life between two cultures brings unique challenges.
Unfortunately, there are currently no English-speaking psychologists based in Brno. This can make the search for support more difficult, especially if you can express yourself better in English. But don't let that discourage you!
However, there is a promising alternative:
As an experienced psychological psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming it can be to adjust to a new culture – when the language sounds foreign, the social codes are different, and sometimes you can't even explain why you feel so alien.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity questions are bothering you, or homesickness is weighing you down – together we will find ways how you can not only survive in Brno, but lead a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from a different cultural background – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find your way back to each other.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are also welcome to arrange appointments by email. I look forward to getting to know you and working together to find a way how you can not only survive in Brno, but really arrive.

Many expats in Brno struggle with the Czech language, which can lead to frustration in everyday life. Finding accommodation is often difficult, and differences in the work culture can lead to misunderstandings. The longing for familiar products and traditions also plays a role.
To make the search for accommodation easier, you should familiarize yourself with the practices of the Czech real estate market early on. Language courses can help to overcome the language barrier. Seek contact with other expats in Brno to exchange ideas and find support.
As there are few English-speaking psychologists in Brno, online counseling is a good alternative. You can speak to a therapist in English from anywhere. Find out about costs and possible insurance benefits to find the right option.
Culture shock is normal when moving to a new country. Accept that it takes time to adjust. Deliberately engage with Czech culture, be open to new experiences and cultivate your own cultural roots.
Homesickness is a common feeling among expats. Try to develop a routine in Brno that gives you stability. Seek contact with other expats, take trips in the surrounding area and try Czech specialties. Contact with family and friends back home can also help.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings and social isolation. Use language courses to improve your language skills. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you don't understand something. Online translation tools can be helpful in everyday life.
One difference often lies in the directness of communication. Expats are often more direct, while Czechs tend to communicate indirectly. Try to adapt to the Czech communication style and be patient. Humor can also be different. Learn to accept and respect the cultural differences.
