Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It's wonderful that you've found your way to our page for German-speaking psychological support in Bonn. I know how it feels to be far from home. Life as an expat holds so many wonderful experiences, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of finding your way in a new culture (even if Germany is your home country – Bonn can still feel foreign!), and the feeling of having one foot in two worlds – all of this can really take its toll. Especially when the silence sets in, homesickness can become overwhelming and the feeling of being uprooted can arise. You are not alone.
As an online psychologist, I understand the very specific difficulties that await you as a German abroad – or as someone who has moved to Bonn. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences, but also the specific challenges of this city, from finding an apartment to making new contacts. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that keep cropping up in everyday life and this feeling of loss of identity that is so difficult to grasp and put into words. I know how draining that can be.
My goal here is to show you both local resources in Bonn that can help you, and to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as a German abroad or as a new resident of Bonn – no matter where you are or what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who really understands your situation and can help you with advice and support.
I always hear the question: Sally, do you also take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I am passionate about women's health. But I don't burn out.
I manage to do that by taking care of myself. Here, the following applies to me: Practice what you preach. So you will not only find me at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake or on the snowboard. In the picture here on the right, I am enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. That's how I recharge my batteries and then get back to work.
As a licensed psychological psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
A trusting relationship is particularly important to me in our collaboration. Your experiences as a German abroad or as a newcomer to Bonn deserve special attention and understanding, because life in a new environment brings unique challenges.

Even if you come from Germany, Bonn may be different from your hometown. Be open to new things, but don't expect to feel comfortable right away. Allow yourself to be homesick and maintain contact with friends and family back home. Explore the city and discover what it has to offer.
Get involved in local groups and associations that match your interests. Attend events and meet new people. Use online platforms to make contacts. Don't be afraid to approach others and start conversations. Volunteering can also help you make social contacts.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and social isolation. Use language courses and tandem programs to improve your language skills. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you don't understand something. There are also counseling centers that offer support in various languages.
Bonn has a long history as a former federal capital and an international influence. People from Bonn are often considered more cosmopolitan and tolerant than people from other parts of Germany. Conflicts can arise when newcomers try to enforce their own habits and ideas. Be open to local customs and show respect for Bonn's traditions. Try to find common ground and build bridges.
