Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) Sally Schulze
It's wonderful that you've found our page for English-speaking psychological support in Toulouse. I truly understand what it's like to be far from home. Expat life holds so many incredible experiences, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. The longing for family and friends, the challenge of navigating a new culture, and that feeling of having one foot in two worlds – it can all be quite taxing. Especially when the silence settles in, homesickness can become overwhelming, creating a sense of being uprooted. Please know that you are not alone.
As an online psychologist, I deeply understand the unique challenges that await you as an English-speaker abroad. It's often not just the obvious things like cultural differences or language barriers. It's the subtle nuances, the small misunderstandings that arise in everyday life, and that feeling of identity loss that is so difficult to grasp and put into words. I know how draining that can be. Perhaps you are struggling to adapt to life in Toulouse, feeling isolated, or grappling with the feeling of not truly belonging.
My goal here is to show you both local options in Toulouse that can help you, and to introduce you to my online counseling. This is specifically designed to support you as an English-speaker abroad – no matter where you are and what challenges you face. Because sometimes you just need someone who truly understands your situation and can provide you with advice and support. Whether it's about professional challenges, personal crises, or simply the need for a familiar conversation, I am here for you.
I keep hearing the question: Sally, do you also take time for yourself? The answer is: Yes! As a speaker, expert and entrepreneur, I am passionate about women's health. But I do not burn out.
I succeed in this by taking care of myself. Here, "Practise what you preach" applies to me. So you will find me not only at MentalStark, in TED Talks or podcasting. No. You can also find me in Frankfurt cafés, by the lake or snowboarding. In the picture here on the right I am enjoying the sun and the fresh sea breeze. This is how I recharge my batteries and then start again at full speed.
As a licensed Psychological Psychotherapist (CBT) and certified fertility counselor (BKiD), I bring more than 3,000 hours of experience in online counseling. My approach is based on appreciation and radical acceptance – I create a safe space where you feel understood and accepted.
In our collaboration, a trusting relationship is particularly important to me. Your experiences as an English-speaker abroad deserve special attention and understanding, because life between two cultures brings unique challenges.

As an experienced Psychological Psychotherapist, I offer you empathetic psychological online counseling. I understand how overwhelming adapting to a new culture can be – when the language sounds foreign, the social codes are different, and sometimes you can't even explain why you feel so alien.
In my online counseling, we create a protected space where you can talk about all these feelings in your native language. Whether you feel torn between cultures, identity issues concern you, or homesickness burdens you – together we will find ways for you to not only survive in Toulouse, but to lead a fulfilling life.
Even if you are in a relationship crisis – perhaps even with a partner from a different cultural background – my couples counseling is a valuable support to build cultural bridges and find each other again.
The 20-minute introductory meeting with me is free of charge. Check completely without obligation whether the chemistry is right and ask your open questions. You are welcome to make appointments by e-mail. I look forward to getting to know you and finding a way together for you to not only survive in Toulouse, but to really arrive.

Many English-speakers in Toulouse experience challenges related to the French job market, which can differ from their home countries. Difficulties in finding accommodation, social isolation due to language barriers, and cultural differences that can lead to misunderstandings are also common. These factors can lead to stress, anxiety, and depression.
It is important to actively attend French classes and integrate into local communities to reduce social isolation. Thoroughly research the French job market and adjust your expectations accordingly. When looking for accommodation, the support of local real estate agents can be helpful. If you feel overwhelmed, don't hesitate to seek professional psychological counseling.

An open and curious approach to French culture can help mitigate culture shock. Try to understand and respect local customs. Seek exchange with other expats and locals to share your experiences and gain new perspectives. Be patient with yourself and allow yourself time to adjust to the new environment. Visit local markets such as the Marché Victor Hugo or participate in events such as the Festival de Toulouse to experience the culture up close.
Regular contact with family and friends back home can help alleviate homesickness. Find activities in Toulouse that you enjoy, such as sports, language courses, or cultural events. Join expat groups or English-speaking clubs in Toulouse to make new contacts. Explore the city and its surroundings, e.g. with a walk along the Canal du Midi or a visit to the Cité de l'Espace.
Language barriers can lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and social isolation. Use language courses and language tandems to improve your French skills. Don't hesitate to ask for help and use translation apps or services. Talk openly about your difficulties and seek support from other expats or in psychological counseling.
Differences in the directness of communication, working style and punctuality can lead to misunderstandings. People from English-speaking cultures often tend to be more direct, while French people prefer a more indirect communication. In working life, English-speakers value efficiency, while French people often value interpersonal relationships. Be aware of these differences and try to adapt. Be patient and show understanding for the other culture. Address conflicts openly, but pay attention to a respectful and diplomatic way of expressing yourself.
